Tower of Here, Room 1

I would be pretty remiss if I didn’t update on the first day of the year.  Kind of bad luck.

This whole weekend, I’ve been keeping the Land of Four Shadows in the back of my mind.  Thinking about the Highmen, their culture, their history, their architecture, how they raise their children and such.  I was inspired by Babylonian structures, but I don’t know anything about their history outside of the shape of their buildings.  So, in my head, I’ve slowly imagined how children are taught.

They wouldn’t have called themselves “Highmen.”  They would call their race something like “Clayborn” or such.  Names and words tend to shorten as civilization goes on, soooo…  Clayborn.  Claybon.  Clayb.  Claib.  Klaib.  There we go.  The “Klaib.”

The Klaib believe they were created, not by their god, but the first Klaib called Katr.  Katr was a lonely Highman and the only one of this kind.  He molded people out of clay into his own shape and changed his own design to make women and children, so the race could perpetuate.  He imbued them with soul, whatever that is, and was happy.  But eventually he grew old and died and the knowledge of how to make Life was lost, outside of the natural way.

This land is the place for study, a kind of scientific magic research settlement, to re-discover how Katr made his people.

Starting with the Tower to the West.  The Tower of “Here.”

This was not the first tower to be built.  We’ll do that on February.  This was the second.  It sits in a grassy field, standing tall and made of “Black Iron,” which is what it sounds like.  It sloped steeply up, like an obelisk, and the shadows of an eye shape can be seen at the very top, tho it is unlit (unlike my depictions).  On the East side of the tower, there is a large door, 10 feet wide and 10 feet tall.  When closed, the seem is so tight it cannot be found, even with Search for Hidden doors.  Hints found in the First Dungeon, at Middle Pillar, says "HERE WILL OPEN. STAND AT ECLIPSE OF SOUL."  At around 8 o'clock, on a sunny day, the tip of the shadow (where the eye is) will fall over a square ruin of a building and, if anyone is in that ruin, the tower’s front door will slide downward to open.  Searching this Square Ruin may find a large Purple Gem, the same color as the Night Gems.  This is, in fact, a giant night Gem.  If removed, it will shatter to dust and break the mechanism for the front door. The party will have to find another way in (scaling to one of the windows?)

The front room is Room 1.  It has six columns of text in bronze cut into the smooth blue-black walls, three on the North and South walls.  The pillar in the middle has more text.  There are what look like tiny squares, about a pinky in size, lined in Yellow Gem Dust (we’ll see more of that later) that produce light.  If examined with a successful WIS save, players may determine that the inside of the squares look like the sky outside.  They are, in fact, Tiny portals leading to the roof of the tower and covered with crystal.  If here while it's raining, a few of the openings will leak.

If translated, the six columns will explain what's in each of the six levels of this tower.  In the middle of the room, there is a small black-iron pillar holding up a bronze cube statue with Highman Numbers on it (in order of a d6 with the 6 on bottom and 5 facing West).  The cube is part of the pillar.

"HERE" THIS LAB MADE TO FIND HERE.

THE EVERYWHERE WE ARE.

HOW IS HERE?

SEE WHAT WE FOUND.

(This shortened and simple language has two purposes. This is how the Klaib language worked, tho we will find a more complex language later. The second is to make it easier to put in Cypher form later.

More to Come.
